yet another activity for which Ms. Wright is primarily responsible. In her

June 2007 British Isles Tour
Plans are underway for the fourth European tour of the WTYC, June 2007. An
invitation has also been extended for
the WTYC to perform at Carnegie Hall. The choir will prepare
for and study Irish music and history during the 2006-2007 school year in preparation for
the Ireland Tour.
The
WTYC was recently invited to sing at Carnegie Hall!
Times for this event are still being negotiated.; it is hoped that this
event will precede the Tour of Ireland. Ideally, four days would be
spent in NYC and then it would be away to London and Ireland.

WTYC Schedules Second European Tour
While the media has seemed consumed with negative
reports about today's youth, it will lighten your heart to merely know that a group of
youth exists such as the West Tennessee Youth Chorus. The WTYC, a local group of young
musicians have learned the true meaning of "teamwork"--raking leaves, selling
ads, watering lawns, selling candy, performing odd jobs, while they practiced, practiced,
practiced. After two years of extra-curricular work of their own initiative, meeting
several times weekly after school, the WTYC recently achieved their collective goal of
sharing their talents in in various venues within London and Paris.
Note: This trip was a huge success..
Look for updated photos and narrative under European Tours page soon.
The age span for both choruses is 7-15.
Martha Wright invites talented, hard working vocal musicians who are interested in
auditioning, to contact her by phone 901-753-3918 or by emailing (click below) to the
attention of Martha Wright.
The WTYC has performed at The High Altar of Notre
Dame and other venues in Paris, all over Austria and Germany, at various venues in
England, at the National Pageant of Peace in Washington DC twice, various
historic venues in Italy, including an acknowledgment by the Pope on his first
public appearance at Vatican Square, at the Kiwanis International
Convention held at the Nashville Arena for a crowd of 15,000, with the Memphis Symphony,
and with OL' Man River James Hyter in Memphis--to name a few.

The 2005-2006 performance school year started with a bang as
the Choir was invited to perform at a Methodist Hospital fundraiser. Former First Lady Barbara Bush was
the guest speaker.

Another triumphant Season during the 2004-2005 season
included a second visit to Washington DC, where the Touring Group, the WTYC, again
opened another Pageant Of Peace Presidential Christmas Tree Lighting. They also
shared the stage with country sensations Marty Stuart and wife Connie Smith, famed
operatic tenor
Carl Tanner, and many other celebrities. They also were invited by Willard Scott pageant to appear the following morning on the
Today Show.
Although grueling, it was worth it, according to choir
consensus, to follow the DC tour with an 1o Day tour of Italy, where the choir
performed at numerous famed venues, and acknowledged by the Pope at Vatican Square
on the first day he greeted visitors.

October 12, 2000:
WTYC selected to be the chorus for the opening ceremony of the National
Christmas Pageant of Peace--Christmas Tree Lighting
The West Tennessee Youth Chorus has been
selected to be the chorus for the opening ceremony of the National
Christmas Pageant of Peace--Christmas Tree Lighting, to be held Monday,
December 11th, at the Ellipse on the White House grounds in Washington D.C. The President
of the United States will officiate at the ceremony--and will personally "light
the tree." This traditional event began in 1913, when President Woodrow
Wilson became the first President to light the National Christmas Tree. Since then, the
tree lighting ceremony by the President has become part of the holiday tradition offered
for the enjoyment of all Americans. This event will be nationally televised.
The WTYC will share the stage with headliners
including: Welsh soprano Charlotte Church, young country singing sensation Billy Gilman,
and the United States Navy Band. The WTYC will perform two selections accompanied by the
United States Navy Band and provide back-up for the other acts. TVs Al Roker will
appear as Santa Claus.
As indicated by the attached invitation letter, The
West Tennessee Youth Chorus, a community-funded group, must pay their own expenses, and is
thereby seeking financial sponsors who will in return receive varying levels of
advertising exposure surrounding this event. This is a historical occasion and will have a
positive reflection upon the entire Mid-South. Every resident of the Mid-South can be
proud of this landmark accomplishment by their own Mid-South children. Corporate and
private financial advertising sponsors are needed.
Our thanks to Northwest Airlines, for being the
first of these sponsors, providing roundtrip air service for the WTYC children.
Children from West Tennessee, ages 7-15 are
auditioned by appointment for membership into the West Tennessee Youth Chorus and the the
younger non-touring division, the West Tennessee Childrens Chorus. Limited openings
are available.
Media are invited to contact Mrs.Wright to answer
questions and arrange interviews and special access to the West Tennessee Youth Chorus.
Rehearsals are held at the Cordova Center and are closed, except by appointment.
If you would like to participate in this exciting
event as a private or corporate sponsor, or would like audition information, call Martha
