| The 2004 Pageant of peace was featured on local and international broadcasts including CNN, MSNBC, Fox, CSPAN. Channel 3 WREG in Memphis provided excellent local coverage of the event. Numerous print media articles, including generous coverage in the Memphis Commercial Appeal Daily Newspaper, and all the local weeklies further underlined wide-spread community support of this prestigious honor for the WTYC. Emissaries of artistic excellence for the entire Mid-South the WTYC will begin its tenth year with invitations to perform in Carnegie Hall, Reverend Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral, and to record with professional musicians. For the optimum in vocal training for ages 9-16, there is not a better place for those who love music and want the "whole" experience.
The WTYC met Willard Scott of NBC 's today show; he played Santa Claus as the master of ceremonies. Impressed with the WTYC, he invited them to appear on the Today Show the following morning.
The WTYC opened the Pageant of Peace with their "signature piece", Let There Be Peace on Earth, which they also performed in the 2000 pageant. Accompanied by the US Marine Band, they also performed a Holiday medley. The WTYC also shared the stage and with American Idol finalist Kimberley Locke, Broadway sensation, Darren Holden, operatic tenor Carl Tanner, and country stars Marty Stuart and Connie Smith as they sang back-up to the celebrity singers. Several performers expressed amazement regarding Mrs. Wright's ability to work with them over the phone--even singing harmonies for their approval as she arranged them on the spot. All expressed enthusiastic accolades for Martha's exceptional musicianship--which is an integral part of the WTYC''s success.
Producers of the Pageant of Peace, as they assessed the wide variety of performers, extended the invitation a second time stating Mrs. Wright and the WTYC have the skill to be able to deliver the required demands of the pageant on short notice.
During a gala held after the event, to which director Martha Wright was asked to address the small gathering of celebrities, government officials, and Pageant of Peace supporter, a drained and exhausted Martha Wright spoke from the heart of peace and good will and the importance celebrating the Holiday season in America. After, she was approached by many from the audience with words of solidarity.
Thomas Kinkade again painted a picture of light interpretation of the White House, which graced the cover of the event program. Ms. Wright visited again with the Kinkades about their shared passion of the importance of keeping the arts programs in our schools.
Internationally respected evangelist and television personality, Dr. Reverend Schuller, provided the invocation. He also extended praise and an invitation to Martha Wright to bring the WTYC to perform at the Crystal Cathedral in California. With all of these invitations, the making of a domestic tour is surely in the making, sometime after the 2005 Tour of Italy.
